Bearfoot Achievements in 2023

Despite it being a quiet year for Bearfoot, looking back at 2023, it was a very eventful year for the Bearcubs! Thank you to our amazing committee and to everyone who has supported us this year- through time volunteered, tickets purchased, donations given, and engagement on social media. Your continued dedication to supporting the development of new work means the world to us. All of our fingers (or paws?) crossed for a wonderful 2024 for the whole theatre community:

???? Celebrated Bearfoot’s sixth birthday!

???? Launched the first LIVE production of our fourth annual ‘Pride Celebration’ in collaboration with our friends at Jopuka Productions. The Celebration was performed LIVE at both Red Tree Theatre in the Central Coast and The Civic Playhouse in Newcastle and nearly 200 people were featured, including representatives of almost every Newy theatre company ????️‍????????️‍⚧️????️‍????

???? Received six CONDA nominations for our incredible production of ‘Take Me to Neverland’ and received a CONDA award for ‘Best Ensemble’. We are so proud of everyone involved ????????

???? Launched our long awaited ‘Rainbow Cubs’ initiative and celebrated their first performance at the Pride Celebration. We look forward to continuing development with the Rainbow Cubs in 2024 ????️‍????????️‍⚧️????️‍????

???? Held several fulfilling development workshops with playwrights to support the early stages of new work creation.

???? Continued our Pa(w)treon account where we currently have 30 Pawtrons who are generously supporting our long-term plans for Bearfoot. Twelve terrific artists shared their original creations with our Pawtrons throughout the year. We have exciting new perks planned for our Pawtreon moving into 2024 ????

???? Launched our first online season of a past Bearfoot Original Production with the live-stream footage of ‘Here, There and Everywhere’ by Pip Thoroughgood.

???? Made a conscious effort to celebrate diversity in our teams and acknowledge where we can/will improve representation & support. We also used our Instagram platform to recognise and support disadvantaged communities.

???? Auditioned and began rehearsals for our January production, ‘C*ckhead’ by the incredible Tallulah Eden. Tickets on sale now! ????

???? Improved our financial accessibility by offering free tickets to Queer Youth at our Pride Celebration and offering $10 tickets as an early-bear discount for C*ckhead. We vow to continue improving our accessibility wherever possible.

???? Began a profit-share structure for our productions and will now be able to pay a small fee to our creatives thanks to our generous Pawtreon supporters. If you are feeling generous, please consider joining our wonderful Pawtreon family to support the future of Bearfoot ????patreon.com/bearfoottheatre

???? Promoted the phenomenal theatre companies in Newcastle, with a focus on supporting our Bearcubs thriving in external productions- and can’t wait to do it again next year! See less
